while this might not have helped in your extreme cold situation, this is my back up plan. i have 3 keys (with remotes) to my saab. one is the main one i use, the other my boyfriend has, and the 3rd is kept in the trunk. if the remote i'm using dies, i can open the trunk with the key and use the extra remote to deactivate the alarm.
