After the oil pan is removed I bolt the subframe loosely back to the car and use a bottle jack against subframe and lower part of bell housing to push the engine sideways enough so the that engine cover can be removed without dropping the engine.
You need to manufacture a short T40 torx bit so that you can loosen the bolts for timing cover.
Cylinder head should be removed too for easier access to balance gear sprockets. It is a good idea to put a new head gasket on anyway.
