Brought the car to work this morning. Had my co-worker master mechanic (not a Saab expert) listen and he can't hear any chain noise at idle or higher rpm. So next week we will take Ander's advice and pull the oil pressure reducer valve and check for scoring, I just had the oil changed 50 miles ago so the filter won't do me much good. If the oil pressure reducer valve is clean and no chain noise (see above opinion) I think I will hold off on any repair. You know I read lots of info about TIMING CHAIN issues with this model, even the Saab mechanic who originally made the diagnosis
mentioned only the timing chain and did not mention the balance shaft chain until I brouht it up. From what I gather doing searches on this sight and this current dialog it seems that checking the balance shaft chain would the first course of action. Opinions welcomed of coarse.
