Yeah we could debate this forever and not be understood Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Why does the charge mount up?, Dick in Falls Church, Tue, 8 Mar 2005 09:30:00 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Thank's for the accurate list of doing business.
It is not fun with this hysteria about parts prices and shop labors. It feels you can't win for loosing.
I bet it is shops out there that hates me for being candid and give out "trick of the trade" secrets too.
Internet have changed the way we do business and like it or not I think it is here to stay.
It is no way that I can compete with eEuroparts prices because it would leave nothing to pay for the cost of doing business. It's too bad that some people don't understand that.
The same goes for shop labor.
For some or another reason some car owners have gotten the wrong impression that they should ONLY pay for, from when the mechanic picks up the tools until he drops them down and the job is done.
They don't think about the time spent with service advicer when explaining the problem or the time the parts guy sit there trying to find and order the part or when the mechanic search the internet, or scouring over books, finding the answer to their cars problem, or the time just test driving the car listening for whatever hickup it might be. In all rolls being myself running a one man operation.
But that's just the way it is.
What I feel the car repair business have failed in is to keep an appropriate hourly shop rate. Dealers have starting to catch on coming closer to $100.00 an hour but the after market business is helplessly behind.
With all the new technology, knowledge and special tools needed we should be up there with doctors and lawyers and charging mid hundred to $200.00 an hour.
