Well, I completed my job for this weekend: I replaced the plugs, distributor cap and rotor, and cleaned the AIC and throttle body. It was actually pretty easy, although I managed to break one of the legs off the plenum (I put it back together with Permatex Black Silicone Sealant). Just went and filled up my tank and added a bottle of Techron concentrate; also topped off my fluids. While it probably took me as, a first-time DIYer as far as SAAB's go, about 1-1/2 hours to complete everything, I think this will be about a half hour job the next time I do it. May try to clear the pollen filter next weekend, in addition to trying to replace the fuel filter. You mentioned rubber seals inside the copper washers. My replacement fuel filter came with four copper washers, but no rubber gaskets/seals. Do I need to replace the existing ones, as well? And if so, should I be able to get these from the parts store? While I'm not even close to being a mechanic, your theory about the deteriorated rubber getting into the lines and fouling up the FPR makes perfect sense. Hopefully mine are still intact and reusuable. If not, is it safe to do without them, or should I locate rubber BEFORE I attempt the repair? It's really gratifying to do this work myself. I think I've saved myself about $350.00 - $450.00. Thanks again for your help.
