I'm gonna try to do my own tune-up tomorrow, and am hoping that someone can give me a bit of guidance. These are the parts that I've purchased thus far:
Mann Air Filter #C29 118 (already installed this part)
Bosch Distributor Rotor # 04 170
Beck/Arnley Distributor Cap # 174-7018
Beck/Arnley Blue Thunder Spark Plug Wires #175-6021
AEI Fuel Filter #043-0819
Distributor O-Ring
Permatex Anti-Seize Lubricant
Okay, here's the thing: I'm confused on the spark plugs. I was of the impression that NGKBCP6EV was the plug of choice for my car. The parts store didn't have any in stock, so I decided I'd use the NGK BCPR6ES. I check over the phone to confirm the plugs were in stock (had to have them delivered from one store to a store closer to my house), but when I got to the parts store I was told that BCPR6ES are the wrong plugs. BCPR6EIX was also suggested. In any event, I left the store without plugs and can't get them until Monday. In the interim, I need to replace the cap, rotor and wires this weekend while I have the time. I was thinking that I'd perform this task over the weekend, clean the existing plugs with a toothbrush until I can replace them with new ones on Monday (because I know replacing the wires, cap and rotor will be a time-consuming task for a novice like me). So, here're my questions:
1. What plugs should I be using?
2. Where can I find detailed instructions for replacing the spark plug wires? (I got a link here for replacing the plugs, cap and rotor using existing wires -- excellent instructions BTW)
3. Is the distributor o-ring a royal pain to replace, or should I leave it for someone more experienced to handle? (I've got a distributor oil leak)
4. Any special do's/don'ts for this job?
5. Estimated time to do the job for someone with limited mechanical skills?
6. Is my parts list ok (i.e., did I miss anything?)
While I have already purchased the fuel filter, I'm holding off on that job until I have a "just in case" fuel pressure regulator in my hands. I think I can handle the filter, but how difficult is replacing the FPR? And where the heck is it located? Sorry if this post asks elementary questions. I'm a girly girl who doesn't mind getting dirty, but I don't want to either blow up my garage -- or my car, for that matter -- and don't want to take on something that I might not be able to handle.
Many, many thanks in advance for any help you can send my way. This is a wonderful resource for SAAB owners!
