How long does a clutch usually last in the 9-3?

How long does a clutch usually last in a 9-3? I have a base 2000 9-3 with 43,000 miles on it. It is starting to show signs that the clutch needs to be replaced (sometimes grinding into reverse, difficulty getting into first gear on occasion). I usually am careful to make sure the clutch pedal is fully depressed and I will normally synchronize the transmission prior to putting it into reverse by selecting 1st or 3rd gear before going to reverse. Cars seem to require clutch replacement at different times. I had a 1987 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe that needed a new clutch every 40,000 miles. My Integra GS-R has 122,000 miles on it and the clutch is fine. I noticed several postings where 99 models needed clutches as early as 23,000 miles. I just hope it is the clutch and nothing more serious.
