9-3 Window Switch Repair

The window switch unit on my leased 1999 9-3 stopped working. Right now the window is stuck open during winter. The SAAB dealer mechanic who I took my car to for repair told me that the switch stopped working because I (or my 6-year old) spilled coffee into the switch unit. The center console cup holder is located just above the switch set. THe dealer says that a $500 switch unit replacement ($300 for the switch and $200 for labor) cannot be done under warranty because the switch was not defective. It was my fault for spilling coffee on to the switch.
Question 1: Has anyone else experieced inoperative window switches becuase of coffee spills from a cup in the center console cup holder?
Question 2: Do I have a credible argument to ask SAAB to replace the switch under warranty? My argumet: This is a design flaw. THe switch unit have been made waterproof if it is placed below a cup holder
Question 3: Is there a lower cost repair option other that a switch replacement? E.g., can the contacts in the switch be cleaned. $500 seems alot for a coffee spill.
