Saab doesn't pay me anything... I was just making a personal observation based on 37 years of being an American (born and raised). People tend to blame problems on everything BUT their own actions. It's funny how when you travel to Europe, people tend to think of Americans as lawsuit happy cry babies... but I digress.
Yes, putting the drink holder next to the switches isn't the BEST design in the world but that's the way it is... On Saabs, the switches have always been on the console, the console cupholder came along in 1994 with the NG900's (the C900's had no built-in cupholders, since believe it or not, Europeans don't think this is important!! ) Cupholders in European sedans have only come into importance in the last 10 years or so at the insistance of good ole flag waving Americans (but why are they buying so many non-US made cars??? Hmmm...)
As for not seeing evidence that liquids didn't get to the circuit board... Did they crack it open? That's the only way to know what happened. As I said before, Saab is not alone in this "electronics vs liquids" problem. I'm sure plenty of Bimmer owners have dumped the morning Starbucks "Grande Latte" on the console mounted switches around the shifter. It happens to the best of us...
Don't drink and drive... ;-)
