Sorry to hear you think you're not mechanically inclined... (Why do people think this way anyway? I don't understand how they survive without being taken advantage of by "repairmen")
As for your point about this being a design flaw... I totally disagree. If and when you take it apart, you'll see that it's designed to not let the liquids reach the circuit board. BUT liquids can still gum up the crevices around the switches themselves. This is unavoidable! Saab's design is actually better than a lot of others I've seen (BMW included).
And finally, you asked whether this should be covered under warranty. This is highly unlikely since it was a deliberate action (spilling liquids) that made the part fail. Most dealers will KNOW what happened as evidenced by the gummy stuff in and around the switches. This leads me to the whole argument that Americans always tend to blame something or someone else for their problems but lets not go there... ;-)
