Hatchebacks don't do well in the US

Most people who need that kind of utility will by a SUV or a wagon. Those are the facts. Every manufacturer has abandoned hatches in the U.S. market with a few exceptions. There is no logic to the US publics rejection of hatchbacks but it is still a fact. The new 9-3 in my opinion is fabulouse looking and will put SAAB on the map for the general public. Saab is seeking to get itself included on the shopping list with the other cars in the premium class. In the U.s., the public is aware of and cross shops ,BMW, MB, AUDI, LEXUS, ACURA, VOLVO, JAGUAR, CADILLAC,INFINITI, not necessarily in that order. Saab is on the fringe, and that is a dangerous place to be due to the threat of being squeezed out by all the intense competition. It's about market share. They are doing the right thing mostly. I would have preferred if they offered the New 9-3 as hatchback, sedan, coupe and wagon. This would have given them some distinction over the other cars that don't offer so many variations.
