It took me a while to notice it, but my manual says the listed tire pressures are the "LOWEST recommended tire pressures." For 205/50-16s it lists 33psi as the minimum cold pressure. If you're running them at that low limit, you'll need to check 'em AT LEAST once a week to make sure they're not dropping below that (especially as winter temperatures drop). Underinflated tires don't grip as well, don't wear as well & don't protect your rims as well. They also have the potential to overheat due to excessive sidewall flexing/scrubbing. They ride softer, but if that's your goal you should switch to 15" rims & get 195/60-15s on 'em instead.
The 205/50-16 Michelin Pilots I've got are max pressure rated at 51psi & I run 'em between 44-48psi. My 195/60-15 BFGs (my winter set) are rated at 44psi max, & I typically run them at 40-44psi. Even at these higher pressures, the ride is phenomenally smoother with the 195/60-15s. Of course, traction is worse, & handling is "softer" (which my wife prefers but I don't).
