Let me first make a base comparison. I'm on my second saab. The first was a '85 4 door 900 with no turbo. I purchased the car with over 100k miles on it and it still drove perfect. The car became like an old pair of shoes which fit perfectly-- broken in, comfortable, and stylish. Remember that old, perfect, teesirt riddden with holes back in high school that your mother threw away? That's how I felt when I decided to "upgrade" to a 2000 Jeep GC. It was nice, but it wasn't the same. I needed the sport ute, but, for me, the jeep created no passion. After I was hit by a driver of 2 months, I decided to get a new 03 9-3. I'm now going through the shoe experience again. I'm transported back to highschool during the first days of playing basketball in my new Air Jordans. I'm falling in love, again. While new models of cars (and shoes) will appear over the next several years, I'm sure my passion will evolve into a warm feeling every time I get in to my saab.

Before I made my decision, I test drove Audi, VW, BMW, MB, Mazda 6, Acura, and Infinity. While many of those cars excelled in their own areas (such as the A4 with Quatro) I found that the Saab was the best all around car. IMHO I don't think that the BMW out-handles the saab. Perhaps on a race track, but who the hell actually drives their car on a race track on a daily basis? The BMW was not worth the extra 6k. The Audi was a solid car (one that I was actually leaning toward) but the 1.8t wasn't as quick as the Saab and the fact that around the SLC area they are so common was a deterant. Saab owners tend to be individuals-- I'm an individual. They tend not to buy based only on perstige.
