I've been thru Colorado many times running east from Vegas and my car(Saturn)runs well if not gets excellant/better mileage on their 85 gas.
My opinion would be that a Saab would perform better with at least mid pump and just deliver less HP at 85 or 87.Excelleration is where a driver would really notice a difference with higher O numbers, and maybe a smoother running engine.
I would also believe that the hotter the weather the higher Octane the Saab would be happer with.(here summers are normally 100 plus)
it really is up to the driver in how the motor behaves, buy the Octane your happy with, with the modern engine controls a 87 gas would/should only lower the boost. If one is crusing on the highway you'd be suprised how little horsepower it takes to maintain 70mph.
waiting for a wagon. And thanks to all for informative reports on the new 9-3
