You guys must just be unlucky... I finally made my better half learn to drive a stick (amid much cursing and whining) a few years ago, and now she'll never go back. She bought a stick, and when it came time for me to buy a new car, I wasn't allowed to even consider an Acura TL Type S because it didn't come in a 6-speed. She hates automatics now. I have to admit, nowadays whenever I drive an auto, I get confused (slam on the brakes when I go for the clutch) and I hate it - it feels so detached, and even the auto-sticks take forever to shift and feel mushy. I don't even mind driving the stick in traffic - only rarely do I wish I didn't need to shift. I'd probably compromise and take anything with an SMG or maybe even a CVT if it worked well, but other than that, I've sworn off autos for the forseeable future. Just no fun...
Having said all that, if you don't mind the auto, and it makes the wife happy, well, there's not much of a question there, is there? :-)
