Ground is pretty solidly connected to that bolt. Yak has it in the same location...Yak, have you had any problems? See below for my request for a little testing...
I'm pretty sure at this point that the hiss is coming from the head unit. It scales with the volume knob, the treble control, and the fader on the head unit. I'm now assuming that the only reason it doesn't mute with the audio mute button is that it's generated after the point at which the signal is muted. In other words, the hiss is not muted by the mute button. I don't know if it's filtered out by the head unit's amp or if it's generated after the preamp output wires are split off, but I'm pretty sure it's already there by the time the signal gets to the DIN jack.
Question now is, is this normal, and if not, can it be fixed? Could someone do me a favor? If you have tweeters driven from the DIN jack preamp outputs, turn up your treble, set the fader towards the tweeters (wherever you have them), turn the volume up, and mute the audio. Listen for any hissing. Let me know...if it seems like I'm the only one who has it, I may open up the head unit or check the grounding on that to try to figure out what's going on.
TIA,
Matt
