A loaded 9-3 Linear would look the same, run stronger up to 4,500 rpms (quicker spooling turbo, not so cammy) and save you another $2-3k. You could use the difference to upgrade the stereo to Arc specs, get the 17" wheels and tires, or put the real wood trim in.
Because of a so called consumer clinic, the wood in an '04 Arc is plastic. An unconsionable decision in my mind.
Do consider a 9-5 Arc. More old time Saab flavor, killer Harmon Kardon sound system, 220hp with peak torque hitting 700 rpm's lower makes real gusto! 9-5 still has a sweet 5-speed suto with the fingertip paddles on the Arc, paddles only on the 9-3 in the Aero. And with an extra $2k in incentives, almost the same price as a 9-3 Arc.
Or try and find a new 2003 9-5 Aero with even another $2k in incentives making it about the same price too.
Fold down back seats means your bike will still fit.
The new 9-3SS' have a litheness and nimbleness unmatched in any car with the all aluminum engine, hood, suspension and brakes contributing to a relatively balanced 53/47 weight distribution and the Re-Axe passive rear wheel steering makes the handling super sweet. Most folks agree with you, the seats are very nice, the front seat being roomier than a 9-5, and the cupholders are the real deal.
My customers generally like the newness and freshness of the 9-3SS vs the more traditional 9-5, but that's up to you.
