I would keep a bottle of wine in the trunk, instead.

In the oldies, my father got a problem with his car's engine which suddenly got mute.
He was a good technician (and I think I got something from him) so he looked at his engine and found in the spark distributor that the spring of the platinum contacts was broken. (How many of you remeber these platinum contacts?)
He did not have a spare pair of contacts!
You know, they were not expensive, but internet was not there and so nobody would have purchased spare contacts to be kept in the trunk!
It was late at night my mother and I were in the car freezing at winter time.
He was creative (mechanically speaking) so he found a solution. Found a cork sliced it and placed between the spark distributor's wall and the mobile contact. (one was fixed and the other was moved by a cam and retained by the damn spring that broke)
The cork acted as a spring keeping the mobile contact in its place against the cam.
Turned the key and wrooooom we went home.
That is why I would keep a bottle of good wine and a good portable lamp in my trunk.
ciao from Italy
