IMHO, I would do both. The car needs to breath better. The stock intercooler on the 9-3 1999 base is a shocker. The reason i change the stock exhaust was because the resonator had a huge hole on it. So it was time for a new exhaust.
The question is are you a DIY? Both of these changes i did them myself. Both are easy. If you are in Atlanta i can help you with both of them.
As far as suspension for auto-x the stock suspension is no good for auto-x. I have a SAS sway bar and the brace & clamp from MP Performance. With 17 inch Viggen wheels dedicted AZENIS Sports tires 225 45/17. Even with this the suspension is no good. If i want this car to handle well for auto-x then it would be to much for the street and my kidneys will suffer riding in the street with a race suspension.
This is why for next year i am going to get a dedicated car for auto-x or SOLO or perhaps get my license and race wheel to wheel. But is not going to be a Saab.
