My wife a '01 9-3 5spd. She tells me that putting in "reverse" is hard, in a sense that either it doesn't want to go in (unless she empty-shifts into 1st, 2nd, 3rd, then reverse again) of it goes in with a "bite" (crunching of gear - yikes).
I initially thought that she either didn't have the put the foot on the clutch pedal all the way in and/or didn't pull up the reverse-safety on the shifter all the way.
Well, we both tried to "do it right" (ie. pedal in all the way, etc), and it still happens.
The thing is that it's only intermittently experienced, not every time, which is tricky when reporting a problem.
Has anybody had this problem? Would it be a warranty item? (If so, we're still covered.)
It's just that we don't want to bring it to the dealership, only to have them disregard it as a 'ghost problem' while being charging arm & leg for "diagnosting" it.
Thanks for your feedback,
- Hiroshi
