Slugged motor/ possible cure method

I've recently picked up a '95 900S with 80,00 miles. The motor has quite a bit of clatter, and has been deemed blown. I tried changing the oil, and also gave it a flush. It did respond a bit, and despite the noise, it runs very smooth. It also quiets down a bit after running a while. It is a non-turbo. I'm hoping the head is simply starved for oil. I've found some local places that perform the Bilstein oil flush. I'm thinking that perhaps I could have that done, and possibly just have to swap the head to fix it. Maybe get lucky, and fix it with just the flush. It is just the same type of noise as on the late classic 900, but much louder. Has anybody had any luck "saving" one of these "blown" motors with this method? On some other motors, you can work the lifters with a screwdriver while squirting oil to free-up the compressed lifters. I can't see how you could do this on the 2.3. Before I actually pull the motor, I thought to try a few more things such as a diesel fuel flush. But, it seems to me that perhaps I could give that Bilstein system a go before making the engine swap or perhaps limit it to a head replacement. Any thoughts?
