Porsches are (IMHO) really not daily driver cars until you get in to the 996 and later Boxster years. That being said, my 928's and 996C4 were daily drivers and I did a considerable (but not expensive) PM's on the 928's. The 928S4's, GT's and GTS's are cheap to operate if you do the work and, if not then they are mercilessly unforgiving in the pocket. The 996C4 was simply boring because I absolutely had NOTHING to do to it except regular intervaled maintenance and oil changes. I actually looked forward to the changing the spark plugs becuase the rear plugs behind the exhaust are a bit of a challenge to change. Other than that the 996's are fairly maintenance free. I had the infamous "rear main seal" failure in my 996C4 but that was repaired by the dealer under warrenty. My 996Twin Turbo was not a daily driver and barely saw 2000 miles before I sold it.
The 964's are great Porsches too but I only comment on the experience I have had on earlier year Porsches from my 928, 993, and 996 ownership.
