HELP! stuttering then dies

Today I took my car out and under acceleration the car started to drop in rpms and stutter. If I wasnt giving it much gas it seemed ok, but when I tried to accelerate the rpms would drop and the car would start to lurch. Eventually the car sputtered out. Now the car will turn over and the electronics will come on but the car won't start. It currently has 115k on it and the di cassette was replaced at 82k, so could that even possibly be it? The check engine light came on, but my car is stranded on the side of the road so I can't go have a code read. I also had my girlfriend try to start the car while I listened to the fuel pump, I couldnt really hear anything. Is my best bet that it is the fuel pump? I had no other signs of it dieing before this, and my ngk spark plugs only have about 1k on them. I need to try to find a sure fire solution because I go back to school on sat and I need my car! If it is infact the fuel pump, would that throw a code? Also, how long does the fuel pump change take w/ cutting at it through the top of the seat? I might just have to take it to an indy to have it done, but I really don't want to shell out the cash. Any help would be greatly appreciated! P.S. i tried banging on the fuel pump from the backseat and it seemed to get one fighting sputter out of the car but then nothing more even with more bangs, so maybe it wasnt a result of the banging. Thanks in advance!
