I'm looking for a service price reality check -- does this seem right... or jive with your experiences?
I have a 2.3L NA NG900 auto trans, now at just over 100k miles. It was in need of 2 new engine mounts (not the hydraulic one). It also was due for a new engine belt and small pully (converting from stock configuration to the "short belt mod" others have often recommended in posting to this board). So, trying to save $$, I purchased all the replacement parts (including 2 different belt lengths), put them in a box, and took the job to a very well-reputed local independent shop (a Saab specialist), and gave simple, specific instructions.
The labor time on the bill came in a good bit higher than I expected: 1 hour for EACH engine mount, and 1.8 hours for the belt/pully replacement -- a total of 3.8 hours! No additional issues were found with the car. To my ears, this is longer than it would have taken ME to do these jobs. As a benchmark, does this seem excessive, especially for the best known Saab mechanic in the region? Should I be returning to do more business with this shop?... should I contest the bill, or is it in line with expectations?
