If the hood is buckled, it should be replaced. The hoods are designed with crumple zones, designed to absorb impact and fold rather than be pushed back into the passenger compartment. From what you're descrbing you'll definately be well above 1k. You can count on having hidden damage once the damaged parts are removed. AT 35 mph, I would at all be surprised to find structural damage.
Depending on the state you live in, you may have uninsured motorist property damage coverage which may offer a lower deductible than your collision coverage. Might be time to give your agent a call.
