I'm embarrassed to say that on my '86 SPG I used a regular paper stapler by oopening it up and then stapling away. These staples are finer, thus less visible, then those from a staple gun.
I agree with another poster....don't bother trying to reglue. I tried this a couple of times, even using a fabric 3M product in a spray bomb on my '78 99 Turbo....what a mess. The spray soaked throught the fabric and resulted in a blotchy orange and white ceiling....which fell down a few months later!!!
The proper, most cost effective way is to have an automotive upholstry shop replace it. I think it can be done for under $200.
