Help Car Dead In Brooklyn Nothing happens at key turn Posted by juanm [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Hi
My son may be stranded in Brooklyn.
He goes to school in Brooklyn. He took his 1996 Saab 900SE Turbo to Brooklyn yesterday (300 mile trip) and today he called me to say that the car doesn't start. When he turns the key, nothing happens. No clicking, no sound. The power windows can go up and down so I don't think it is the battery.
some background - the short story. A local mechanic at home (300 miles away) was supposed to tend to a Check Engine Light for an Oxygen sensor on Monday. He couldn't get the part that day. So later in the day, I was going to take the car to get two tires and he convinced me to buy the tires from him. the next day, he put the tires on the car and when my son went to pick the car up the O2 sensor was not installed since he thought we didn't want it installed. He said it was no big deal since that shouldn't cause a problem driving the car. I wasn't available at the time but my son took the car and drove it 300 miles to Brooklyn. No Problem. He drove it all around Brooklyn today in a lot of stop and go traffic, no problem. He parked the car at his apartment a while later, the car wouldn't start. No sound, no nuttin'
One more thing, on Monday our mechanic did a computer check of the Saab and it yielded two hits - one the O2 sensor and the other the crankshaft sensor. He did the check with the car not running. I read on this site that the crankshaft sensor will show up under a Check Engine Light alert when the car is not running and a computer check is done.
So I think it could be as simple as a Q2 sensor that needs to be replaced OR a DI module needing replacement.
Other thoughts? Things he should check? Any magic fixes?
I checked for a mechanic on this site and only found Swedish Auto Service in Brooklyn which sounds great. Any others I can check with. Anybody local that can come by and check it out for my son?
He was only going to be in Brooklyn a few days at his school apartment. hopefully he will be able to get home in this car.
thanks!!
Juan
