I'd have to kind of throw in a similar note... if you want "really reliable", I wouldn't be looking at a 13 year old car. Things get old, they dry out, the corrode, even if the major components are strong there are likely to be some items wearing.
If reliability was my top concern, I'd buy Japanese - and after checking out that particular model/year for any known issues (Japanese cars have them too).
If, OTOH, I wanted a really nice ride, nice enough so that I'd look for places to drive whenever there was an excuse, a '98 900 SE 'vert with 66K would be at the top of the list... and it would be easily modifiable for better handling and more power if I wanted more of the fun factor.
