To me it seems like a tough choice and I'm not sure you will win.
Not having a problem with the maintenance cost on a Mercedes and BMW and that they have never left you stranded, you can't beat that.
You don't say if you bought them new and how many miles they have and how many miles when you sold them or if you still own them.
Dealer maintained might not mean much unless it can be backed up by full paper trail where you can outline and follow when the different fluids and filters were replaced.
Like others have said. At this point and 100K miles forward, the fuel pump can die, ignition cassette, crank sensor, radiator, water pump, serpentine belt and pulleys plus some other stuff, all of which will leave you stranded if it fails badly.
My sister in law have an 01 BMW X5 and she have spent about $20K in service and repairs over 270K miles and it have left her stranded a couple of times.
