There are brake pads which create less dust.
The rear pads can get rust bound in the caliper slots. This is not a caliper piston issue. The pads need to be removed, and rust and dirt scraped from the slots. Push the pistions back in to protect them first. Clean the pad backing plate edges. Put brake componet grease on the slot contact surfaces and the backing plate edges. Put a film of grease on the hood down pins and springs to preserve them.
The rotor should be removed and the parking brake mechanism cleaned and libricated. Especially where the shoe backing plates contact points where they rub on the steel behind.
On the front brakes, you will find a few sliding joints. I keep these oiled or greased. Also there are guide bolts on the front brakes which need to run freely. They are meant to be weather tight, but others have had them bind up.
If any of these spots are not free to move, you will loose pads or shoes, and possibly the rotors too. Parking brake shoes should get zero wear. If they hang up, they get trashed. I have had similar rear brakes and parking brakes from Volvo's designs since the 1960's. Same problems on the Saabs.
