They are pretty good for the first 100,000, but beyond that they have their share of problems. They get their reputation from magazines like Consumers Reports, but they only messure back about 6 or 7 years. I specialize in imported cars in the $2,000 to $10,000 range, most of them have between 70,000 and 140,000 miles. We buy a lot of Hondas, Toyotas and Subarus, and they need just as much if not more in the way of repairs as any of the European cars we buy. I have 145,000 miles on my Saab and it still drives better than any of the Japanese cars we buy, even when they have 40 or 50,000 fewer miles. They rust, the suspensions get clunky, the engines run rough no matter how much we tune them, beleive me, they are a long ways from perfect.
