20K by now since repair. But since we have sooo many 2.3L engines/cars coming to our shop without a problem, I can't really say that it is a specific problem toward a year or bad part in particular.
One interesting thing though is that non of our regular customer have had a problem with worn chains.
All 6 engines I have done is new customers coming to our shop where the symptoms was there right away when I checked out the car for them.
That could to some aspect point toward the lack of service/oilchange. But still don't explain the ones where the engine was clean inside and still worn out.
I haven't seen overheated/melted guides yet ( as Neal mention above) but it might be possible.
