I replaced the O2 sensor with a universal sensor from oxygensensors.com. NOW the check engine light is on, and performance hasn't improved at all.
I took the car to Midas and the ten minute free assessment from "Bud" is that I'm not having any exhaust backup, back pressure, or catalytic converter issues. He didn't pull anything apart or use a computer, so he could be mistaken.
A possibility is that the O2 sensor I bought was a dud - has anyone run into this problem? I also could have botched the install, but it was extremely easy.
Anything else a possibility? I haven't dumped in the Techron injector cleaner yet because I recently filled up the gas tank, so I'm just now down to half a tank. I think I'll dump that in tonight.
