'94 900 V6, new engine? HELP!

I am on my 3rd 900 these days...a 1994 Saab 900 V6. I did do research and learned of the notorious timing belt problems of this car. I bought one anyway. I took it in a few times to make sure it was road-trip worthy. I had the valve cover replaced because it was warped and leaking oil. 100 miles from my home in the Oregon wilderness, the timing belt slid off. Apparently oil from the old valve cover got sucked into the timing belt through a tiny hole in the gasket. I had to take it to the dealer. They gave me two options (both very expensive). One, to replace the cylinder heads, timing belt, tensioner, etc. Or two, to replace the entire engine with a brand new one ($5400). I decided to go with the brand new engine. It is a 3.0 liter V6 manufactured for Saab and Opel(the original engine is 2.5 liter V6). The original quote was $6200. Once the engine came in, they realized that they had to make this new engine adapt to the Saab (since it is made for both Opel and Saab). This includes installing a Saab oil pan, thermostat, engine mounts brackets, dipstick, etc., and transfer all the sensors. Another $1500. Now I am floating at $7800 for a car that I am still paying $4500 for. Are these estimates accurate or am I being taken for? Is it worth it? Either way I am losing. Help! I am in a bind.
