I finally have an official prognosis and itemized estimate. I had it wrong in the original post. Because of the leaking valve covers, the timing cover seal got sucked into the timing belt.

I did call SaabUSA as was suggested. I talked with them for nearly 30 minutes. I told them my situation, but the car after 90k is pretty much out of there hands. They did give me a price quote on the 3L V6 with an expected installation costs. They were within the ball park ($300) of the dealer's estimates. I am sucking it up, paying the full cost, getting a brand new engine with 0 miles. As NickR states...I am actually very excited about the new engine...despite everything. Thanks for the information and support. I will let you know how it all turns out.

If anyone wants to buy a '94 900 for 12k, let me know ;-)

ps. Does anyone have any info on the 9-2, besides what is on the SaabUSA web site?
