Bummage. Once the engine fails, there is little to be done. FWIW, I question the statement that the valve cover was leaking onto the timing belt; although they are proximately located, I fail to see how oil could get from one to the other. Who is doing the work, the same dealer that serviced it prior to your purchase? Hmmmm. The more likely scenario is that the dealer who did the last timing belt replacement did not put in the new tensioner assembly, if the belt had even been replaced. I've been on this BB for over a year now, have not seen any reports of timing belt failure how you describe, usually it's just a failure to maintain according to schedule.
Please post your miles, and if/when the timing belt was replaced, at what mileage, and if they did the new tensioner assembly. Another possibility, the camshaft seals were leaking onto the belt and tensioner assembly, if there was a leak at all, which I still am suspicious about. That, too, should have been caught at the last timing belt replacement.
What did they do to determine "road-trip worthy"? If I was a mechanic (which I'm not) who was familiar with the V6, I would have looked for a v/c leak and taken a peek at the timing belt first and foremost. Otherwise, the V6 is pretty solid.
I'd also contact Saab-USA and try to get a discount for good-will. Good luck.
