I have a new family and expected my 1997 Saab 900S 2.3L Auto to be a reliable and safe vehicle .... It's a good thing I purchased the Extended Warranty at the time I purchased the car used from a Saab dealer.
Within the first year the warranty paid for a Upper Engine Rebuild, Alternator, Struts, and Rotors. Year 2 - Alternator, (The switch that tells your tranny to change gears), and Power Window/Lock panel. Year 3 - Alternator, and Fuel Pump. This is just to name a few off the top of my head.
MAINTENANCE is SO important in NG900's. I've maintained my really well since owning it (ie. Oil Changes, Tranny Fluid Changes, TuneUps) and it has really been a pleasure to drive.
Make sure you question the maintenance on the Vehicle! Look at the oil, drive the car for a day, look at the oil again - could be hiding something. Question "Loose" feeling things. From what I read on the posts, the a properly maintained Turbo is probably the Better choice - especially for re-sale too.
Just my comments, good luck.
