Vincent,
The return spring doesn't have enought strength to affect the clutch operation. It's really just holding the cable in place at the pedal and will help the pedal to return to the rest position if the cable breaks.
Sounds like they may have upset the adjustment of the pedal. I've replaced two RHD cables recently after my original failed at about 110,000 miles. It failed at the clutch actuator arm which is where most of the stress is concentrated. The clutch itself pulls the cable back in to the rest position.
The reason I had to replace two cables was that the first cable self adjust mechanism wouldn't - or rather it constantly did so with a loud pop every time you pressed the pedal in. Second one behaves most of the time, but I'd guess that they may have been trying to overcome a problem like this and have altered the pedal stop.
Five hours is way OTT, but if they are going to fix it in two weeks, I'd see if you can live with it until then. I think they may be doing a bit more than the return spring.
