Three towell method.... Back in my Porsche days I discovered the three towell method. One 5 gallon bucket of water which I sometimes get from the bathroom tub warm when it's cold out, and three towells.
The first towell you soak completely and slosh on the car to remove the heavy dirt, rinsing the towell each time. Work in one smallish area at a time, half the roof, hood, trunk, then the sides and finally the lower rockers, cleanest to dirtiest. The second towell quickly becomes damp and mops up after the first soaked towell. The third towell stays mostly dry and is used for finishing up.
With the leftover dirty water, usually about a third of the bucket, I clean the wheels. For this I use a dedicated dirty small towell (four towell method?) and the brake dust washes off pretty easily.
Next time I add another clean towell for the third towell, move the #2 into the bucket as #1 and so on. Great method unless the car is really caked and scrungy, which is seldom in SoCal.
