Hey there!

I sympathise with you problem. I spen a few nights each week in the city and do not have easy access to water/hose/nice brush, etc. I love Griot's Speed Shine. You spray it on and wipe off dust, ect. it lubricates the surface so that scratching is minimal. Its a great "three-season" strategy. In teh winter, however, the road salt will just destroy a "waterless" wash. Under those circumstances, I use the spray wash self seve car wash (no brushes) and them teh Speed shine afterward. Try NOT to use cricular motions with any drying/washing towel. That just creates minor swirled scratches that catch the sun from any angle - intensifying the negative effect. Instead, use front-back motion on horizintal surfaces (hoods, roof, trunk lid) and up-down motion on vertical surfaces (door panels).

PS - I rarely "detail" the car where I park it in front of my apartment. Folks can see your "obsession" with your car and reward you with vansalism. Instead, I detail on the way to, or from work - where I can spill a little water etc in the parking lot and no one freaks out. I drive along the Charles River with lots of metro/rec parking lots that provide a beautiful view. you might have such spots along teh Potomac or Anacostia.
