Best Wax/polish for Dark color --not Zymol

Geez, I spent the better part of a nice afternoon cleaning my recently bought 99se, midnight-blue convertible. The paint is in nice shape and its the first time I've had a dark color since clear coat has been used on a finish. I feel tweaked because I used Zymol Polish (it says there's wax in it too) for the first time--and it will be the last time I use it.
The Zymol was impossible to get a clean, not streaky finish on the car. From far away it shines fine, but up close it shows a lot of "smooshes and streaks". I did work my butt off, trying to make it pretty.
Am I missing something about getting the car to shine nice? I usually used "Wax Shop" products and got great results.
What do you think is the best wax/polish for dark colors? SAABs can't be unique in their finish can they?
Thanks ;)
P.S. In the old days I remember a lot of the paint color coming off dark and metallic cars onto my rags--clear coat is great.
