Thanks - I love talking cars & detailing.
If you have time, and if you'd like, drop me an email (cthomebrewer@aol.com)sometime & we can discuss car care stuff a little more - I don't want to go on & on about Zymol here - don't want anyone mad at me since this isn't a Zymol BB, ya know?! I could share some funny Saab stories with ya, too...had a BLAST working there. I really miss it. All of us who worked there miss it ... It was a fun place to work. I went down to Norcross a few years back & visited the headquarters there (some of the people I worked for/with moved down there with the company) and it was very different from how it was in CT.
I like knowing inside stuff, too. Back when I worked for Zymol, I signed a lot of confidentiality documents, so there's some things I can't disclose, (by law!) and I really wouldn't want to disclose some things. But, it's a great little product and Chuck sure knows what he's doing with every aspect of his business - after his demonstrations, folks LINE UP to buy products. He could sell ice to an eskimo. He's a character! Definitely a car guy.
It was kinda funny back then to observe all the wax companies (smaller, lesser knowns) that would try & copy Zymol. (Imitation is the best form of flattery?)
You mentioned sheer BS in the car care industry...hmm.....yep, but there's also a lot of sheer BS in the CAR industry, as well. Yikes.
Um, gross margins -- *staggering*? Uh-huh....(!!!!!) But that's the same for everyone....I mean, for all we know, it only costs roughly 75 cents a container for the Meguiars or Mother's folks.... ;) And maybe less for a Turtle Wax - hey, can I brag about having met Chuck Tornabene of Turtle Wax fame?! He's a REEEEALLY skinny, tall guy & I had given him a ride from his hotel one time .... in my 900S ... the man had the seat all the way back and his knees were pressed against the glove box & his head was hitting the roof. So, a Saab would not have been his car of choice (!) But he complimented my little Saab. :)
Thanks for the compliments, however, the TSN folks would benefit more from your opinions & knowledge of a greater variety of products than me and my biased opinions (on cars and wax!!) I know the Zymol product first hand & some of the others, but you're more the wealth of knowledge on a vast array. Thanks for the info. I'll to find a post about carpet stains - '00 9-3 came with one.....
