it gets hot as hell. I have burned my unit more than once with that sucka! But that is the sacrifice you have to take if you want to own one of the greatest machines ever made!
My 1GHz PowerBook is $hitloads faster than my pops 2.3GHz Windoze machine and that is the way that I like it.
As for the risers, I would use them. you have a fan in there too so the heat is not an issue for the computer but may be a problem for the finish f your desk.
Also, make sure that you blow the dust out of the PB every once in a while. it will cut down on the heat and make it run more efficiently. You would be amazed with how much dust collects inside one of these, especially if you have tile or wood floors.
