Very interesting data. I only skimmed it, but I didn't note the fatality rate per total vehicle miles driven, which is one of the ways the US Govt and the insurance industry looks at data.
One point is that Montana is one of the least populated states, so you can safely go a lot faster simply because there is a lot less traffic to contend with.
Interesting that people practiced good lane use. I've noticed this in other states where there is a limit but the cops give a lot of leeway. On a trip to Arizona a couple years back, I found the flow of traffic to be 80 to 90 (in a 75) and people stayed right except to pass.
Is this taught in western states driving? It sure isn't here in the east!
