And the information is being turned on its head!
What JDP is really measuring is the opposite of what's reported by USA_T - they're measuring how attractive the dealership is for routine service! There are other surveys which measure initial quality and "long-term" (their term) reliability. THIS survey rates the percentage of DEALERSHIP VISITS for routine service versus (presumably) warranty repair. What it means is if Saab (for example) offers free periodic service, they're going to get a bunch of service "business". Want to "improve" your score on the "percent service versus repair" survey? Offer 5,000 mile versus 10,000 mile service - you've now doubled your "routine service" visits w/o changing the number of "repair visits."
Why do Buicks score so well? B/c they cater to octogenarians (like my mom) who are strongly biased in favor of a "single source" solution to auto repair - they are willing to pay the higher service costs for the security of knowing that whatever needs be done, is done.
