...at about 150 lbs. and I rode a Honda VFR crotch rocket, I hated how "under powered" it was. That is to say that I wanted more off the line power. I also always thought the in-line 4 was a smoother running engine than the V 4's, which I had.

In the end, I swore (sic?) that if I ever got another bike, it would be 1) an in-line 4, 2) be AT LEAST a 600cc. If my boss will ever allow it, I'd like to get a used Hurricane or ZX-7, but so far she hasn't indicated that this will fly. I bring it up every once and again...

If I'm not mistaken, the Monster is a V, which I wouldn't like, but I think you're on the mark as far as having enough power. Personally, I'd probably never go larger than a 750 or 900 cc for my size build and non-racing driving. Now, if I planned to race it, I'd stick with something smaller, maybe even a 250cc.

Good luck & ALWAYS wear a helmet. All it took for me to start wearing a helmet all of the time was one pretty bad wipe-out on the street. From then on, I wore the DOT-approved haircut RELIGIOUSLY.
