H-D first bike?

OK, my previous post might lead one to believe that I don't put H-D on the pedestal that the non-motorcycling public has been led to believe they deserve.
But, if one really wanted a H-D for a first bike, I suppose that a Sportster, especially the 883 would be good. It's slow, it shakes a lot so you won't take it very fast, yet it is a Harley, so you accomplished that milestone in your life.
I don't think that they sell very many 883's, so a used one might be difficult to find. Another plus for one would be the ease in working on it, and replacing parts you scratch up when you drop it. The dealer network isn't EVEN comparable to Ducati's, and the shop charges are probably comparable. You get that whole HOG thing, where you can learn the important motorcycle skills like biting at suspended hot dogs as you ride under them, which tatoo goes best with your custom-paint tank, and why doo-wraps protect your head so much better than a helmet.
OK, I've mixed this post up some, but, if you really like the idea of a Harley, an 883 would be a good beginner bike.
