As long as the changes are regular, you should be OK. But personally I think 3000 miles is best for conventional oil. Lots of people including Car Talk, etc. disagree. But I would only go 5-8k if I was running synthetic, which I'm not. In my opinion conventional oil changes are cheap so why not error on the side of caution.
