Just throwing my two cents in. All car companies (including Saab) are very cautious about paying 100% for an out-of-warranty repair. Regardless of what you may consider a defect, the main reason has to do with legal repercussions. If a manufacturer is going to pay for your repair 100%, they may be obligated to take care of any out-of warranty repair for anyone. Paying 100% could be considered a "hidden warranty" which can lead to major legal problems. An attorney once told me that "what's good for one person is good for another". Unless a repair falls under a service campaign or a recall (which never expire), most will ask for an owner contribution. A 50/50 split seems reasonable but best of luck getting more $.
