Mel,

First, as all will mention, thank goodness, God, whomever you look to, that it was only minor aches and pains!!! Sorry for all of the trouble you have been experiencing. No matter what language the description is in, the pictures and your explanation tell all!

My unprofessional medical advice is to see a physical therapist instead of a chiropractor. No offence to anyone out there, but good chiropractors are much more difficult to come by. I understand the theory, etc., but without proper attention to the muscles around the back and neck, the adjustments a chiropractor makes are useless, especially in the long term. As an athlete, I have used both, and had an excellent chiropractor who incorporated muscle "attention" as well. However, the physical therapist can treat much more. Between OSU and UofM, I am sure there are some great ones around; perhaps ask around with some of the athletes or go directly to the athletic department. Perhaps your GF should look into getting a brace while she plays piano. It will help tremendously, but time, rest, and rehab are the most important.

Psychologically, only time will help the thoughts go away. Its best to really focus on the positive aspects of what happened. For example, 5 flips, yet she walked away with minor scrapes and aches. Cars can be replaced, but life can not!

My GF and I are doing the long distance thing as well. Although difficult at times, it is worth it. I am paranoid about her driving as well, not that she can't handle it, but because there are other forces out there, as this incident proves. She drives an old, tiny Civic, and would like either a Jetta but probably a Mini as her next vehicle. Hearing of this, I might try to force her into a Saab. I could not even imagine what you experienced, and my heart goes out to the two of you.

As for the Saab letter, I think it should be a bit of both. Send the letter starting out on positive notes (to keep them reading), thanking them for the engineering that provided the safety, etc. However, switch to your concern about what failed. Ask that they really look into it, and end with you are willing to provide them with whatever they need to do a thorough analysis. It will also help to mention you are a "lifer" in terms of Saab.

I'll end with some specific thoughts to you. It was not your fault! This is something you have to convince yourself of. Could you have done more?We all could, but it is in the past, and no one was seriously injured! Today and tomorrow are new days. Over and over again, you maintained the car to the best of your ability, and IT WAS NOT YOUR FAULT!!! You did convince her that for practical, logical, and SAFETY's sense, Saab was the correct choice. She walked away, and the two of you will continue on together!!!

Best of luck and continued recovery! Time will heal. My prayers are with you, your GF, family, and those around you!!!

Sean
